One of the first platforms i started using was OsCommerce. I had experience in building simple websites using a lot of CSS but OsCommerce was something else. I had little money to spend and wanted a webshop so badly i just started working with it. I hated the default template and didn’t want to have the same frontend as thousands of other users. I had experience in designing and wanted to have a unique design with great usability and all the features i could think of to make OsCommerse the best converting platform there was in Open Source.
Well for that you needed a lot of altering within the source code of the platform. It took me months of digging, reading forums, reading all contributions on OsCommerce, testing, failing and lots more. After a while it became a sort of second nature altering the source code. So after 8 months working on it ( YES 8 months during my free time) i was a master in Oscommerce and of course selling the products.
It had everything i wanted from a platform. Here are some contribs i used in OsCommerce
For that i thank all contributers making my life easier. It did just what i wanted it to do.
The fun part of these contributers is that there was a US company building OsCommerce websites for their customers and they also made these contributions for OsCommerce.
One day they thought; Let’s build us a new E-commerce platform from scratch and make it that good that it has all features we want in it already without third party contributions needed and make it Open Source.
Well they did and Magento Commerce was born.
Well this is something else. Magento looks awsome, was a bit slow but now they have made it a lot faster and better in all aspects. Magento is leading when it concerns Open Source E-commerce. Guess what i even dare to say that they are leading above all expensive high end e-commerce platforms too. I have seen lots of high end platforms, from the front and backend, i have heard lots and lots of consultants trying to sell their platforms telling that they have the best one.
Well i am not buying it. They sell a lot of talk and no action. I have seen platforms from
They are expensive, offten don’t have the required features for now a days like coupon codes, SEF URLS (Search Engine Friendly) and more.
Ow yes they can build everything. If You pay!! a LOT.
Making SEF URLS against 15k euro’s. what? Are we the first that is using SEF URL’s on your platform.
I don’t think so. No dudes you are just money making machines making double money on development while it is already there.
No people i prefer Magento and yes major companies are working with this platform.
Since june this year i can say i am learning a new platform. This is InterShop since the company i work for is using InterShop. Well soon i can tell more about this platform and i will.
It is my goal to learn from the platforms and use the best features they have in the best way to make the most conversions possible. and what is here
